But I feel like I need to be posting something every day, after doing 30 Days of Truth and stuff.

So, Sunday night’s stuff!

At small group, we talked about happiness.

We did a “quiz” (which I will share in a minute) and talked about several verses/passages relating to happiness and joy and all of that.

The “quiz” went like this:

1. How content or happy are you today? Check one–
___Very content and happy
___Kind of content and happy
___Kind of discontented and unhappy
___Very discontented and unhappy

2. Put an arrow by the phrases that describe happiness to you.
A purpose in life
Good looks
Servive to others
A good job
New clothes
Material things
Good grades
A positive family life
Being loved
A boyfriend or girlfriend
Great friends
Being young
Spending private time with God

3. Read the statement and decide if you A (agree) or D (disagree).
___Happiness and contentment are important goals in life.
___Happiness and contentment are moods.
___Happiness and contetment are easier for people with a lot of money.
___Happiness and contentment can lead to selfishness if they’re your main concern.
___Happiness and contentment aren’t something everyone can have.
___The happiness and contentmen of teenagers is the responsibility of their parents.

4. Check your answer to each of the following questions. (None of the time; Half of the time; All of the time)
How often do you feel sad?
How often do you feel lonely?
How often do you feel afraid?
How often do you feel stressed?
How often do you feel far away from God?
How often do you feel down?

5. Is this true for you or not?
I feel satisfied with the direction my life is going.

6. Read Matthew 5:1-12.

We changed question six. The actual question is “Why are the people Christ described happy or blessed?” We just wrote down the characteristics of the blessed people: the poor in spirit, those who mourn, the meek, those who hunger & thirst for righteousness, the merciful, the pure in heart, the peacemakers, those who are persecuted because of righteousness, you when people insult you because of Christ.

We talked about how happiness and contentment are more like emotions, and joy is different.

I mentioned that in my Bible, there’s a note that says “Blessed. The word means more than “happy,” because happiness is an emotion often dependent on outward circumstances. “Blessed” here refers to the ultimate well-being and distinctive spiritual joy of those who share in the salvation of the kingdom of God.”

We read several Scripture passages:

Nehemiah 8:10
Psalm 4:6-8
John 15:9-17
Philippians 2:1-4
Galatians 5:22-23

We also prayed for people and I shared that God’s timing was awesome because after church Sunday, this was on the radio. It fits with what we’ve been going through this weekend. And so does Blessings, which was on the radio today.

And I know there’ll be days when this life brings me pain, but if that’s what it takes to praise You, Jesus bring the rain.

We pray for Your mighty hand to ease our suffering… What if Your blessings come through raindrops; what if Your healing comes through tears? What if a thousand sleepless nights are what it takes to know You’re near? What if trials of this life are Your mercies in disguise?
